Business is a harsh mistress; like the sea, it goes up and down. One must know how to stay afloat lest they drown. Emery knows how to do it; now they swim with all their might because they are in the eye of the storm, and that is where the calm is. Emery had many dreams, ideas and options, but ultimately, they decided to go for something that would bring reasonable profit for a reasonable amount of time: setting up a small franchise of Fritte's in the poorest neighbourhood they could find. The bulk of their business is not even retail any more: they get the goods from the chain, divide them up, and then sell them off to local businesses. Emery keeps only very limited opening hours and cuts costs where possible.

Which brings us to Olly, oh, Olly. Olly is Emery's sibling, and where Emery is practical and calculating, Olly has grand plans and ideas that are mostly connected with chemicals and drugs. For some reason, Emery is now hosting Olly and their weird friends in La Cage. Of course, Emery's life is not all about commerce. They are also passionate about their hobbies - like stick fighting and... honouring the dead.

Tylor is the oldest sibling and the head and brains of the Maier family. The Maiers are known as a family that not only owns a small firm but also holds on very dearly to what they consider theirs.
Tylor has younger siblings: the charismatic Sidney, the strong Jaydon, and the eccentric Andy. But without Tylor, the family would have been left destitute or, even worse - they would have fallen apart. Now, Tylor is in charge, amongst other things, of managing the family's bank account, and they are good at it. They like to keep an eye on everything. The ‘two pairs of eyes’ principle is always useful for decisions big and small, and the second pair should preferably always belong to Tylor.
Late Momma Maier started from nothing, and Tylor wants to play their cards right so that one day, they shall rule an empire. They have their big plans and dreams - now they just need to get their family in line to achieve these. Maybe, then, they can stop living a life of endless labour and focus fully on living the good life. Tylor hopes their children will never have to get their hands dirty.
The problem is that the family is falling apart due to internal disputes, substance abuse, and quite a few differences in how they see the future of La Cage. Tylor cares about one thing only—can they keep the family on the path to success?

Matija is suffering and trying not to show it. They were once the head of a family, the one carrying their family's honour through the turmoil of in-fighting and posturing in the Yugo-Graad criminal underworld and now they’re… nothing. Just a barfly soaked in vodka, getting worked up about politics and how they were screwed by “the system”. Before their child-in-law, Luka joined the family, Matija had thought everything was lost. That it had been lost long ago when their youngest child was taken down in a flurry of bullets in a deal gone bad back in the old country, and their spouse, Valja, insisted they leave with little more than the clothes on their backs. But Luka, quiet Zhenya’s keen spouse, saw Matija as they used to be. They have been Matija’s partner in a thousand deals and hustles in the past few years, and now they've brought a prime opportunity, something to get the Krots back on top – if only Matija could get the anxious Zhenya and the lazy Sasha on board, not to mention Valja, who has been distant for years now. Matija wants what every parent wants: for their children to make something of themselves, for the Krot name to be synonymous with a family that does what they want, when they want, and doesn’t give a damn about the authorities, a family that lives life on their own terms and can rely on one another. If Matija can prove they’re a force to be reckoned with, will their family come together as imagined?

Luka’s family, the Bulyats, had been dirt-poor farmers back in Yugo-Graad. When Luka was still barely old enough to walk, they made the journey to Revachol, looking for a better life. They didn’t find it in La Cage. Instead, Luka grew up with a profound sense of disconnect, the knowledge that they had been stripped of their birthright, of an opportunity to experience the cutthroat Yugo-Graad underworld where they’re certain they would have made a name for themselves. The La Cage equivalent was just sad: little scams by little people for little payout. Nonetheless, Luka wanted to be a big fish even in this small pond: that’s why they idolised Matija, the former patriarch of a Yugo-Graad criminal clan. It’s also why they turned on the charm to get Matija’s child, Zhenya, to agree to marry them; it’s why they ditched the dirty farmer’s name to become a Krot, to be a member of a bloodline with promise. They know the name has power by how other people approach them for sex and favours, by how Luka has power over them. Everything Luka does is to get the Krots back on top, and they aren’t shy of doing some dirty work. Luka can feel the power running through their veins, especially with a bit of white powder, or after they’ve put Zhenya in their place. Can Luka get the Krots back on top and rule the La Cage underworld?

One of the most famous masters of Lo Manthang stick fighting, or at least they insist on that. Kiran Kim’s skill and fame had secured a very comfortable lifestyle in Safre, including a place at medical school for their only child, Tai, a fine child-in-law in Lian, and two beautiful grandchildren themselves due to go to Safre University. The first time some snot-nosed little rat in La Cage spat at Kiran’s feet, mumbling some slur, was the first time they realised that life was gone. First, Kiran felt useless, unable to work beyond scavenging in filth and only a burden on their family, but a series of sculptures helped them see promise in this otherwise grim new world. Kiran committed themselves to staying in La Cage and wants to help solve the thug problem permeating the neighbourhood by opening a dojo to give the local youths a productive outlet for their aggression. With so much standing in their way, can Kiran help make La Cage a safe world for their grandchildren?

When the Kims adopted little Nuri, the child had been mute, shellshocked by the war atrocities that had orphaned them in Co Hoi. Years of therapy and a stable, upper-middle-class life had allowed Nuri to put that past behind them, to block off those memories for what they had thought would be forever. Their adoptive grandparent Kiran, a famous Lo Manthang stick fighting champion, had encouraged them to pursue martial arts, and violent Sam bo boxing had become Nuri’s way to meditate, to silence the voices in their head. They had been slated for a place at university when the Kims fled the war at their doorstep, and between the sudden descent into poverty, being labelled a “dirty refugee”, and flashbacks from the Pale, Nuri is struggling once again with memories they had thought were long forgotten. They joined the Fight Club to help silence those voices from the past and found a new friend in Reine Gessle, someone who also introduced them to the rougher side of drillslam. As Nuri’s family and future crumble around them in La Cage, will they be able to leave the past in the past again and move on, or will they give in to ever more violent coping mechanisms?

Gunpowder was born in Samara - and when the Wild Pines came, they wanted to join the mercenaries from the first moment. Even inside their own community, Gunpowder was obviously destined for greatness, to bring along a new golden age for their people. And the company is a key experience on their way.
They love all the modern drills, armour, weapons and tactics. For Gunpowder, these are the basic tools they need to use to forge a real nation out of their now diminished people. Now, what others would see as a catastrophe, they see as an opportunity. Their stay in La Cage is a great time to study the theory of how you change dozens of hapless individuals interested only in personal gain into a great nation. And Gunpowder will lead.

Reine was the troublemaker of the family. But they are probably not that any longer since they ran away a while ago and decided to find their own luck in the shadier levels of La Cage. The Gessle family was broken by the sweatshop accident caused by migrant workers - and Reine just split and decided to break the family bonds, at least for some time. Now Reine spends time with their drill slam posse, releasing their anger and slowly upping their game. But living on the streets and in the sewers somehow isn’t as lit as they make it sound. The struggle for survival is endless and tiring, friendships are superficial or for the weak, and the comfort of their family is still just a few floors away. But maybe they just have to start at the bottom and see where they will get from there.

Dali Riker, also known as *El Conquistador,* is the youngest recruit to the gang.
Originating from a poor family in an impoverished neighbourhood, Dali had access to illustrated comic books about gangs and cowboys. These books, featuring hardworking individuals protecting their community, inspired Dali to follow in their footsteps by establishing a business selling stolen cigarettes.
Within the Union, Dali takes on various roles, running errands, strongarming people, collecting extortion money, and engaging in physical altercations. Embracing the fantasy of being a true free spirit, they adopted the nickname *El Conquistador.*
