But new life can't paint over a history of close friendships, bad parenting, and a prank gone horribly wrong. Their mission will considerably more complicated because of their worst enemy: Past Marie.

Jean's long life has been full of community service, religious leadership, and a genuine desire to help people. Now, it is nearing its end, but their work is not done; not even close. They have no biological family, but all those who believe are their family in spirit. And it is from this community of believers that they need to choose their successor. There are candidates who might be able fill their shoes, but Jean will have difficult choices to make: and still, there is so much work, so much suffering to help with.
Jean is, of course, not only a priest. In La Cage, even the spiritual leader needs to work with the others and, maybe even more importantly, have fun with the others. It is among their neighbours, with drink or darts in their hand, that Jean takes inspiration for their sermons.

Charlie is one of the best-known people in Revachol. They went to a fancy medical school and became a very skilled doctor. While they could’ve raked in money in any other place, they decided to come back to Revachol to help run the clinic. Charlie never let the poor pay a lot and lived a very simple life. They were repaid with love from the community. Almost everyone has been helped at least once by Charlie.
At least, that is how it looks from the outside. And Charlie is very, very intent on letting the sleeping dogs lie. Nobody is complaining too much: Charlie's practice in La Cage is one of the last reasons people come around and bring in some cash.

Sometimes, injuries to the soul cause more damage than malfunctioning tools. Years ago, Francis lost their wife in a workshop accident, and their life just fell apart after that. Their older kid with their partner, Ember, had managed somehow, but their younger, Marie, ended up in the foster care of Francis' old friend, Tony Eclissi. Francis has had a lot of problems, mostly caused by their attempts to drown their demons in alcohol. It took long, long years to fix up at least their physical side, and the Gessle family has supported them tirelessly. 

Things might also be finally turning around. Francis has managed to get a part-time job as the janitor of Apartment Block B, and through rehab and support groups around the church, they are getting ready to start living once again. They may even be able to look Marie in the eyes again when they come back to La Cage. Francis deeply believes that they have been given a second chance at life, and they must use it.

Sidney is the charismatic sibling of the Maier family and the one who takes the most after their late deceased mother. Sidney cares about appearances and traditions; so much so they are willing to invent new ones if it helps uphold the family's reputation.
Sidney makes sure the Maier “company” is protected from any problems, be they with the law, with clients, or with workers. So far, they have also always complied with the orders of Tylor, their elder sibling who manages the family company with an iron fist. However, the seams of the family and the company will come under serious stress both from the inside and from the outside. Power grabs, fierce competition, and an unruly labour force complicate everything even further, but Sidney shall prevail - especially now that their heart is aflame with a new love interest. A love interest the rest of the Maier family will not be happy to see.

The Patterson family moved from a nice and safe place into Revachol for reasons incomprehensible to the locals. Whatever the cause, they obviously weren’t prepared for the reality of La Cage, and the prospect of staying here for a few more years seems extremely daunting right now.

Cal wasn’t initially on board with Alex’s plan to move to La Cage. They knew that it would probably mean giving up on their dream of acting and having to find a new place in the order of things. But now, when the Pattersons are here, Cal sees it as an opportunity. The desolation of La Cage shocked Cal, but it also awoke an unexpected wave of empathy and new opportunities. However, the other citizens and Cal's new artistic collaborators aren’t the only ones in need of steering to the right path. While Cal and Alex were occupied with settling into their new apartment, their sweet angel Zenna already managed to get themselves involved in more than one problem.

The members of the La Rosa family always dedicated their lives to hard and honest work; it is almost a family tradition. Through sweat and tears, Bo managed to become a popular workshop foreman, always inspiring and supporting others on their shift. They even turned into a mediator between the workers and the Local Union Branch. A few days after that, Bo came home and told Robin that the whole family would be moving into an apartment in block A. Since then, things have not been the same. Bo sees their role as very useful, but many other colleagues don’t seem to appreciate their mediation. Now, rumours are spreading that Bo betrayed the working class and forgot where they came from. Some would even say that Bo allied themselves with brutes and criminals. Bo is doing all they can to counter this slander, but one cold, hard fact remains: Considering the limits of La Cage, their life is pretty good.

Zhenya had still been a teenager when their family arrived in La Cage, grief-stricken by the loss of their little sibling in a deal gone bad back in Yugo-Graad. In a short time, their family crumbled, and Zhenya was hungry for any affection, which came from an outside source: Luka, a fellow Yugo-Graadian whose family had emigrated to Revachol. Zhenya quickly fell into Luka’s arms and, overwhelmed by all the changes and encouraged by their parent Matija’s fondness for Luka, they married fast. It wasn’t long until Luka’s temper started coming out, uncontrolled and irrational. Zhenya used to try to cover up the bruises, but it was too much work, and it turned out nobody cared much anyway. Now, as desperate for any hint of kindness or softness as when they first arrived in La Cage, Zhenya finds ever more reasons to spend time with someone from work: someone who makes their heart beat faster, that makes them feel a giddy sense of hope. Zhenya isn’t sure why, but they’re afraid of what would happen if Luka were to find out… or Matija. Zhenya may not enjoy the hard work at the sweatshop, but they feel a sense of belonging there; they want this part of their life to stay the same, and they want never again to speak of the kind of shady dealings that caused their sibling’s death. Will they give in to the demands of their overbearing spouse and parent or finally become their own person?

When the family was choosing who would be sent to the Revachol, Eha didn’t volunteer. Regardless, they were sent despite their protests; it was Aaro's decision, and there was no way to oppose it. Their relationship has suffered the most, and while they are still in this mess together, far from their relatives and known world, Eha has not really been able to figure out how they view Aaro now. But the terrible tension at home only pushes Eha to strive even harder to resolve their situation - even if sometimes they do not put enough thought into their actions. Lately, they have been trying to connect with the other immigrants in La Cage and even to befriend the local Moralintern unit in a desperate attempt to get help in fighting against the system, so obviously rigged against all the foreigners. But what if sticking their nose into politics will bring unwanted attention? Shouldn't they just focus on their passion for patterns, both in street art and in numbers?

Ofelaš is of the Suru people of the very far north of Katla, and they are known for their ability to heal the minds of those who have gotten themselves lost. The stories of how they have helped people find their way out of the depths of their own minds and even out of the gripping claws of the Pale itself are numerous. How they do it, though, is unknown. Some say they just sit and talk; some say it involves chanted rituals and dancing naked under a pale moon. What they all agree on, though, is that Ofelaš is not someone one should cross lightly. They have a certain hard edge to their soft-spoken words, and the glint in their eyes promises terrible retribution to those who dare even think about hurting Ofelaš’s family and loved ones. At least in theory. Now, being forced to work for food and offer spiritual help for money, that old edge is sleeping somewhere inside. For now.

What do you need to be a good leader?
Nobody knows for sure, but Jasmine is probably really close to the ideal. Bright eyes that see far, both literally and figuratively, a steady hand in a fight, a reasonable amount of charisma and lots of sheer willpower and persistence. Jasmine survived everything the world threw at them, including all the leadership challenges, and is still the team leader, friend to all and mentor to some.
However, even they must accept that this time, they might have hit the wall. The team's situation in La Cage started out very bad and will only get worse - and Jasmine is not growing any stronger or more talented. This all will end with blood. The only question is whose.

Most people in the sewers just can’t live elsewhere. Be it because of handicaps, problematic illnesses, financial problems or just the need to lay low for a while. But Casey doesn’t really care; they are here voluntarily. The sewers are remote enough and dirty enough that the chances of anyone stumbling upon their meth lab are rather small. So they got enough peace for their experimental creation of real primo shit: and the day-to-day boring stuff they need to make. And what is more, their mind is flourishing in the sewers. When not cooking up some substances, Casey usually meditates or has too long conversations with anybody with time to spare. Some would say they are on the quest for truth; some would proclaim them utterly mad. Casey doesn’t really care. But their presence is starting to make the sewer folk's reputation even worse. Will the peace they searched for soon be disturbed?

Member of Precinct 44. Iskra's partner is not only a cop coming from a long line of cops, but also a person of culture. After battling addictions and toxic relationships for quite some time, they managed to come through thanks to art (collages), the grace of Dolores Dei and practising stick fighting. Adonis is also designated as a recruiting officer and has the power to hire somebody for RCM: in dire straits, even in the field, they just strap uniforms, badges, and guns on them, and it is done. Adonis is not only grappling with their past and complicated morals, but they are also responsible for finding new recruits and are knee-deep in problems right now. They vouched for some of their colleagues - and since somebody will quite probably screw up, there will be consequences, and the consequences have ADONIS written all over them. And to top that off, Adonis' destructive love interest is living in La Cage.

When they finally thought they would be free, they got into a new predicament. They were injured by broken equipment – while Ravi Gessle, mother of two, ended up dead. It took Idili months to recover from their injuries.
Idili is unassuming and often goes unnoticed, but they hear everything and, for those who know them, can sometimes be coaxed to part with their knowledge for a drink or few reáls. Idili used to want to go home but couldn’t bear for their family to see what they have become. Now, they just want to be recognised as a person, something that seems impossible. Will they manage to find a stable income and a place to lay their head at night?
